Course Objectives
This course emphasizes the fundamental language skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening, thinking, viewing and presenting. An emphasis on vocabulary and composition skills will be anon-going part of the program. The course includes studies of various literary genres: short story, poetry, novel, drama, and non-fiction. The development of critical reading and writing skills is a major emphasis of the course.
Reading
This course emphasizes the development of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life. Students will study the content, form, and style of a variety of informational and literary texts. They will analyze a range of forms and stylistic elements of the literary texts and respond personally, critically, and creatively to them. Students are entitled to read with a focus on locating information, identifying main ideas and supporting details, building vocabulary, and consolidating skills in the application of key comprehension strategies. Furthermore, the course will extend students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. Students will make short classroom oral presentations and read a variety of adapted and original texts in English
Linguistics
This course expands the students’ knowledge of English grammatical structures and sentence patterns. It is intended to increase their awareness of the intricacies of the English language.
Writing/Vocabulary
This course is designed to strengthen the essential writing skills of the students. Students will be taught all the skills required to create a well-structured essay. Moreover, the course will allow the students to:
